I Tested the Ozark Trail 10-Person Cabin Tent Review

To clear the air immediately, the 7 Person Teepee is not waterproof. The seams aren’t sealed, and the untreated fabric that makes up the body is prone to soaking through after prolonged exposure. The phrasing that Ozark Trail uses is “water-resistant.” In my experience with the tent, that means in any serious rain, expect to see some moisture leaking through at least the seams. The bottom seam gives water a place to pool up and eventually leak into the tent.

The main door is with an inverted T-shape zipper and other doors are D-shaped. The roof is protected by a fly which is minimal in size, so you have unobstructed views through all those windows. If this is for camping, downgrade ozark trail tents this dramatically. For example, a family with up to 6 kids can comfortably camp in such a tent. You would have the entrance room for boots and other stuff and the central dome section for sitting in the evening and for fun.

The front door runs nearly the tent’s entire height, and an additional bug net door mirrors it exactly. If need be, one or both of these doors can be rolled back completely, converting the tent into an open-air structure that still keeps the bugs out. I’ve alluded to the widows and rear awning of the tent several times, but there are a couple of pretty neat built-in features of the 7 Person Teepee Tent that make it well-suited for frontside family camping. In less than favorable conditions, the Ozark Trail 7 Person Teepee struggles to keep up, particularly when there’s a crowd. The recent addition of a rear awning has done a lot to mitigate the stuffiness, but still, it can feel pretty hot and humid when you have to batten down the hatches and have the entire gang with you.

There are only 5 small pockets here, so you have one per room and two in the main room. There are many poles here, but this is expected from such a structure. The main 12 poles are steel and the 10 roof poles are fiberglass. All in all, if you need a tent for 3 seasons or 3 seasons plus, you will need something very different and much more expensive. See this Big Agnes Flying Diamond 6 tent as a nice example, or this Nemo Wagontop 6 tent.

So next time you go camping instead of relying on a Walmart special, use your head. I have the JW-7607 which is a 2-3 (read that as two) person tent. It has held up to kids camping in the living room and back yard, many camping trips to desert / forest / lake environments ozark trail sleeping bag and even survived a bear “attack” with only a small tear. I had a 3-Person EZ Up tent (which I had no problem with except it was too small). It went up fairly easy and there was no wind or anything else. There was a slight rain when I went to bed on the 3rd night.

We had 24 hours of rain in Delaware at the end of which there was a slight leak from the hoop for the lower dividing wall hook at the front resulting in a “puddle” the size of a quarter on the groundsheet. Was pleasantly surprised as I had read other reviews of Ozark Trail but as this was a disposable item (I live in the UK) I was trusting to fine summer weather. I am 6′ and definitely could stand up straight in the centre. Easy to erect except I do believe you need a second person to hold up the poles as you connect them to the corner pins (as stated in the instructions).
