I am preparing for a camping trip of 10 days and nights down in Florida where it rains a lot and the wind sometimes is pretty strong so I am wondering if the fly will stay put. There is a large space between it and the top of the tent that might be a trap for strong wind so the fly gets ripped off.
I had bought this tent thinking it was going to be dry, man was I wrong. I will never buy an Ozark Trail tent in my life and I will tell everyone I know that if they buy one what to expect. And that is you will never be dry in one because they suck bad. Only complaint was the zipper hangs on the front door flap, destroyed flap and zipper.
I still plan to put the sealer and waterproofing on anyway. For the price, this tent served my wife and I well over several camping seasons in PA State Parks. I am now going with a four-season tent though as I’ll be traveling the country and who knows what weather I’ll run into. However, one of the rear hooks (that also seats the fly pole) started pulling out of the seam, so we managed to swap it for a replacement @ a Walmart in North Carolina. The replacement worked fine for the remainder of our tour, including surviving a pretty heavy thunderstorm in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
We figured out that the rain was coming in where there was a mesh netting on the top part of the tent, which is covered by a nylon tarp that covers the entire tent. There is no amount of sealer that would fix that problem. Needless to say we are very, very unhappy with this tent. They may look unnecessary with so many windows and the ceiling with mesh, but if you have long intervals with rain, all the panels must be closed and the tent may become a less pleasant place.
