Its charging dock doesn’t even empty its dustbin — meaning you’ll want to manually empty it after each run. Like the Dyson 360 Vis Nav, the T20 Omni accurately maps your floors and can adjust suction levels as needed. There’s also an intuitive smartphone app to schedule cleanings, change power levels, and modify all your other settings.
Its suction power is impressive and the robot can reach into corners and along edges, better than any other model we’ve tested. Not only did it promise six times the suction of any other robot vacuum, its 360-degree vision system knows where it has been, sees where to clean, and is intelligent enough to respond to dust sensed in the home. However, although robot vacuums have been on the market for a while now, I hadn’t seriously considered buying one, as I was sceptical about how well they would actually clean.
The Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni maxes out at an impressive 6,000 Pa of suction, which handles pet fur and other debris with ease. It also features two side brushes to help sweep in dust from corners, and they work well enough for most situations. Rounding out the package is a piezoelectric sensor that will adjust suction based on how much dust is present, a useful smartphone app, and impressive mapping skills to ensure your entire home is covered. Before each cleaning run, I always made sure to check rooms for stray socks or charging cables on the floor that could cause Dyson Fury to get furious.
But from the details Dyson has provided, which aren’t a lot, it looks like the company is going for power and precision over whiz-bang new features. If you’d like to return a Dyson machine for a full refund, you need to return the machine within 30 days from the delivery date. For purchases made at a Dyson Demo Store or Dyson Service Center, a return must be made within 30 days from the purchase date. We don’t have information from Dyson as to how much the 360 Eye will cost, but according to some rumors, it might be US $1,650. This, obviously, is a lot, but if it really can take over as a vacuum replacement robot (as opposed to a vacuum reduction robot, like a Roomba), it could conceivably be worth it.
The Roborock uses lidar to accurately map your floor plan and offers a side brush that helps sweep up dirt around the edges of your home. It can even detect when the floor surface has changed and alter its cleaning method to pick up the most dirt. Some can return home to charge and self-empty their little dustbins. Some have little mops dyson robot vacuum that can clean hard surfaces and lift out of the way for carpets. And some have voice control or can be integrated with Alexa-style assistants, so they can be commanded through the art of yelling. Aldred noted that simulation has its place, if just to get the bugs out of the system, but that it doesn’t replace real-world trials.
The 360 Eye’s bin isn’t especially easy to reach, either, because it butts up against the dock. That means you have to either turn the vacuum around or pick it up completely to remove the bin. Both the Roomba 980 and the Botvac Connected have very accessible bins that you can reach when they’re docked. I doubly enjoyed the compact and foldable charging dock that comes with this bot, although I occasionally had to wiggle the vacuum around for its contact sensors to correctly line up with the dock so it would charge. Dyson will cover the cost for the return shipping of any new machines. Simply print and affix it to the outside of your return shipment, and contact Purolator to arrange for a pick-up or you can drop it off at your local depot.
