BISSELL® Cordless Vacuums

Pro tip- when hair gets stuck around a vacuum brush, the vacuum loses suction power and struggles to clean effectively. If you’ve ever had the dreaded task of cleaning hair from a vacuum, you’ll appreciate this feature. Shark vacuums are generally better built than BISSELL’s comparable offerings and deliver better overall performance. However, some BISSELL models are a little easier to maintain—many new Shark models use non-removable brushrolls that can be a hassle to clean properly.

This bagless canister vacuum has three cleaning modes and can be used across all types of flooring from carpet and hardwood to tile and linoleum. While we haven’t tested this model in the Lab just yet, our experts appreciate that it has edge-cleaning bristles to get the dust out of hard-to-reach places like baseboards and along the edges of cupboards. Bissell makes post-cleaning tasks easier too with automatic cord rewind and a dust cup that is emptied with the touch of a button. Large wheels on the canister make the vacuum easy to pull along as you clean too. Our pros do warn, however, that it might be too heavy for some at just under 20 pounds. Get in all those hard-to-reach places that probably haven’t seen a good clean in longer than you’d like to admit with this handheld vacuum.

When it comes to vacuums, we’ve tested everything in almost every category, including many Bissell vacuums. Well, recently we were offered the chance to review a new BISSELL ICON cordless vacuum cleaner (RRP £349.99). This vacuum combines cordless with a tangle-free (anti-hair wrap) brush. From 2021 to 2023, Jodhaira (she/her) was a product reviews analyst in the Good Housekeeping Institute’s Home Care & Cleaning Lab, where she tested and wrote about home appliances, cleaning products and cleaning tips.

Bissell recommends charging the unit for four hours before using, and despite being impatient, I listened. Once the vacuum was ready to roll, I tested it on several surfaces. BISSELL has a diverse lineup of vacuums, and their naming convention can sometimes be confusing. So all in all, I do think this is a tremendously well-balanced vacuum for many people and many pet owners too. The instructions for emptying the dustbin are attached on a laminated piece of paper to show how to remove the dustbin before emptying. The brush head connects to the bottom of the chrome pole and the top, holding the battery, controls and dustbin, attaches to the top.

As always, we like to update our vacuum reviews with short and long term usage reports. After all, it’s no good to spend a significant amount of money on a vacuum cleaner designed to cope with dog hairs if it begins to fail after only a year. Here at my house, what I’ll find in furniture is a guessing game. Most of bissell cordless vacuum the time it’s leftover breakfast and dog hair, both of which the Bissell sweeps right up! If you have pets or children, the handheld option will save your sanity. However, you may be sacrificing some measure of cleaning performance, build quality, or quality-of-life features in exchange for that affordability.

Eureka and BISSELL vacuums occupy a similar budget-friendly niche, and offerings from each brand tend to have strengths. BISSELLs usually have a wider array of convenience features when comparing like-for-like models, while Eurekas offer superior debris pickup performance. No more worries about running out of power halfway through your cleaning session. The battery provides a generous 45 minutes of operating time and recharges fully in just 4 hours. Add to this, the clever design of the 0.5-liter dirt cup provides ample space to collect dirt, reducing interruptions for emptying.
