The simplicity of the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juice Extractor ensures an intuitive and easy juicing experience. Stability can be a bit of a problem when the machine is first turned on, but the size of the juicer makes it easy to secure while still feeding produce into the chute. There is also only one processing speed, but we didn’t find this to be a problem, even when juicing kale. In addition to the main body, there are just four components and all four of these removable parts are dishwasher safe. Combined with the brush for use on the mesh strainer, there are no cleaning challenges; this is a juicer designer for daily use. The package does not include a juice collector, nor does it include additional components aside from a cleaning brush.
There’s more to clean with a larger container and an added lid, and foam can be removed using a spoon on models without a lid. Hamilton Beach’s juice container is much smaller, but you can also fit a drinking glass under the spout in place of the juice catcher. This cannot be done on Breville’s juicer since the juice comes spraying out and will make a mess unless the proper container is in place. We finished out our testing for hard produce with sweet potatoes and again got an admirably average performance. The Big Mouth yielded the amount of juice we got from most juicers in our lineup, with moderate amounts of pulp. For our first recipe — a concoction consisting of beetroots, carrots, apples, celery, cucumbers, and ginger root — the Big Mouth delivered a middle-of-the-road performance.
I also tried to run the pulp through the machine a second time, which squeezed out a few more dribbles, but not enough to be worth the extra effort. I don’t see how purchasing a much more expensive machine would save money even hamilton beach juicer in the long run, but I could be mistaken. Our tests for this category compared the taste, texture, and consistency of three different juice recipes. The Big Mouth did quite well, holding its own with an above-average score.
Cost, size, clean-up, handling of the machine, and the fact that they were so similar in performance, were factors that led us to choose Hamilton Beach over Breville. The extra $100 for the Breville machine versus Hamilton Beach was not worth it in our opinion. I don’t see how it could be worth it for anyone, unless looks is the most important part.
Our third drink for testing combined beetroot, apples, carrots, sweet potatoes, and oranges. The mixture produced by this juicer was delicious but had hamilton beach juicer a slightly overpowering beet flavor. There was a decent amount of pulp, and the texture was somewhat watery, but the quality was still above average.
The power switch is highlighted in silver for clear visibility and positioned on the front of the juicer for easy access. As mentioned earlier, it has a lightweight design, weighing just 9.56 lbs. The Big Mouth did much better in our second test, a recipe of romaine lettuce, apples, and oranges. The final drink was mildly pulpy, but overall, it had a great texture and tasted fine.
What I love most is the 2 speeds that allow you to chop up kale and more fibrous vegetables quicker. I also like the juice collection container is larger and features a froth filter on one side, so all the foam strains away from your finished juice. The larger size mouth also allows for whole apples and larger fruits and vegetables so I hamilton beach toaster didn’t have to cut everything into small pieces. It produced about 15mL less juice than the average with little pulp and approximately a half-inch of foam on top. We finished with an essentially average yield of juice, but there was tons of pulp in the drink. The juice also rapidly separated, and there was a lot of foam on the surface.
The Big Mouth does include a cleaning brush, but we didn’t find it to be terribly durable, as it was already starting to lose bristles by the conclusion of our tests. However, the components are safe to clean in the dishwasher, and none had any areas that are a huge pain to wash by hand. I did like the two speed option on the Breville juicer, compared to one-speed-only on Hamilton Beach. The added low-speed on Breville is nice for when you juice soft items such as oranges; I found that the lower speed created less foam.
But functionality is more important to us, and Hamilton Beach beats Breville in our opinion. The Hamilton Beach Big Mouth is the best bet for those shopping for a new juicer on a budget. It does particularly well at juicing wheatgrass and beets, makes tasty juice, and isn’t a huge hassle to clean.
