Pipe Tobacco

From this process, the tobacco emerges compressed in cakes or rolls. This process doubles as a slight fermentation, giving the tobacco a fuller, rounder taste that typically receives little or no top flavor. Heating tobacco that you like is not a good idea, as it will change the character of the blend.

If you’re able to take a break between puffs, you might be able to create that perfect cake. Tobacco Mixers or Blenders as they are more colloquially known, proportion the various cuts of tobacco to create their own unique flavour profiles – there are aromatic and plain tobacco blends as a result. The leaves are partially dried to ensure that they are still supple so the stems on the leaves and any remaining dirt can be easily removed. The leaves are rolled into torquettes and packed into whiskey barrels. The tobacco is kept under pressure using oak blocks and screw jacks to force most of the air out of the moist leaves.

The Davidoff Scottish Mixture is a light, flavourful, middle-cut blend, with a fresh and delicately flowery aroma, which imparts a very pleasant fragrance. One of the most enduringly popular Pipe Tobacco in Bags mixtures, blended from select grades of Virginia, Burley, Kentucky and a small portion of Oriental tobaccos – refined with a dash of the finest Scotch whisky. Most pipe tobaccos are less mild than cigarette tobacco, substantially more moist and cut much more coarsely. Too finely cut tobacco does not allow enough air to flow through the pipe, and overly dry tobacco burns too quickly with little flavour. Pipe tobacco must be kept in an airtight container, such as a canning jar or sealed tin, to keep from drying out.
