It weighs 75 pounds, making it by the far the heaviest grill I tested, but the double-handle carrying system makes it easy for two people to carry it. The problem is that the 13-inch grilling weber q surface of the MiniMax can only grill for about four people. The Nomad ships with a single grate, giving you 212 square inches of cooking space, slightly less than the Jumbo Joe above.
The Weber Q 2400 Electric grill raises the bar on flavor expectations and performance of an electric grill. Sear burgers, steaks and chops; grill chicken, fish, vegetables and fruit on the porcelain-enameled cast-iron grates. If it’s hard to move, it isn’t actually a portable grill; it’s just weber charcoal grill a grill that’s smaller than you’d like it to be. After cooking for a little more than an hour, I noticed fraying in the piece of fabric immediately below the charcoal basket where I had used a firestarter. If food drips on to the coals, causing a flare-up, I’d also expect some fraying.
It has adapters based on your grill and offers one temp probe and three food probes. There’s Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support, so you can keep tabs on your cook from anywhere. To test this I marinated some chicken in lemon juice and olive oil and laid it on the grills. Every grill flared somewhat, but the Q 1200 (and the Coleman below) have weber q heavy enameled cast-iron grates that are closed over the burners, which helps keep the flaring under control. Nomad does offer some custom charcoal ($36 for 10 pounds), and it is very nice, but it’s expensive. Don’t let Eureka’s compact size fool you, there’s still more than enough room to grill your veggies, burgers and buns.
(There is a smaller version, the Q1200, which I did not test, but has a similar design) The Traveler’s design is much smarter for someone who needs to take their grill on the go. This would be a good grill for someone who had a smaller outdoor space and needed something stationary, but smaller than a typical home gas grill. Like the Traveler, the Weber Q2200 can also accommodate a full-size propane cylinder with an adapter. The push-button ignition is battery powered, which I actually found slightly easier to use. The Everdure Cube by Heston Blumenthal is a cute little charcoal grill that’s easy to carry and comes in a number of color options.
I managed to batch cook on it as it does stay hot, but again without a lid, it doesn’t last as long as the Weber grill. I liked that its cork lid doubles as a base for the grill, to protect your table. Just make sure that you line up the dips of the lid with the vents to allow airflow while cooking.
I’d avoid cooking any larger joints on there as it will take so long and they will cook a little unevenly without a lid to control the temperature. It doesn’t stay hot for as long as our Weber pick, but it’s perfect for couples who just use their grill for the basics now and then. I did manage to use it to batch cook and because the design of this grill is a cube, you can rearrange the charcoals once ready to indirectly cook foods, too.
