Every year, thousands of new campers get their first taste of the outdoors in an ozark trail chair. Their combination of space and affordability catches the eye of many campers, but the details on these shelters can be lacking. If you’re considering an Ozark Trail yourself, you’re in the right place. You don’t spend a couple hundred bucks on a tent that you only expect to last a year or two. You pay for quality, and that often expresses itself best in the form of durability. The longevity of a tent is directly correlated with the materials used in its construction. Looking at the poles, your options come down to steel, aluminum, and fiberglass, ranked from strongest to weakest in the order they’ve been listed.
I love that we were able to take the top flap off and watch the stars at night during nice weather. With a bachelor’s degree in communication and political science, Leslie has over 12 years of experience in the deal industry as a content writer and editor. It was one of those planned events in 2020 that was delayed for years, from what else, but the Covid-19 pandemic. Since the trip was three years in the making, the anticipation was doubly intense. Welcome to my review of the Ozark Trail 12-Person Base Camp Tent with Light — the ultimate solution for summer camping that won’t break the bank.
Note that you have the porch area as well for sitting in the shade, it is around 1.5 square meters of space. The tent is cabin style with almost vertical walls, and with a minimal fly which only covers the ceiling. There are only a few guy out points, so this is a typical summer camping tent for mild weather conditions and without much rain and wind. The Ozark Trail 5-in-1 Convertible Instant Tent and Shelter is a ozark trail tent completely unique system with 2 separate 4-person tents, one screenhouse, and an instant setup fly. While both Coleman and Ozark Trail are highly inexpensive family camping tents, this is where Ozark Trail outshines Coleman. While I paid between $250 to $350 for both my 10-Person Coleman Tents, I paid only about $100 for the Ozark Trail 10-Person Cabin Tent, which is less than half the price of my Coleman tents.
Take time to inspect your tent when you first get it (damages from shipping are common), and don’t ever “force” anything when setting up or tearing down your shelter. Despite what you may have read, you can absolutely enjoy an outdoors experience in an Ozark Trail tent. Having room to spread out inside a tent is great, but unless it’s after dark or raining, chances are you won’t be spending any more time inside your shelter than you absolutely have to. Nobody wants to spend all day sitting in direct sunlight either though, and that’s where a tent with a screen room like this Ozark Trail 9 Person Cabin comes into play.
You have a floorless 2-door screenhouse for protection from flying insects, plus a large porch for sitting in the shade. I have all the good reasons to include it to my list of best screen houses for camping. Ozark Trail is Walmart’s proprietary brand of outdoor gear. The Walmart home office is located in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. They make everything from tumblers to tents, and all at an affordable price. Their gear is practical, certainly not in the same league as more technical equipment, but it works.
However, the tent’s total floor area of 201 ft² (18.7 m²) still offers ample room, providing approximately 16.7 ft² (1.56 m²) per person if fully occupied. Realistically, this tent is best suited for a maximum of 6–7 people when used for camping. However, for a group of friends attending a summer festival or an open-air concert, it can comfortably accommodate 9 individuals. With its spacious diameter, the tent can easily fit three queen-sized air beds. One of the standout features of this tent is its exceptional height.
There you’ll find all the info you could ever want on the materials, build quality, and weather-worthiness of these affordable tents. There are some tent brands that charge an arm and a leg, but still provide a poor camping experience. On the other hand, there are more affordable tents that will go a long, long way for you. That’s why I like Ozark Trail – their tents provide strong protection against wind, rain and sun across the board. Certainly it’s not the best weather protection money can buy, but for summer campers and those will be avoiding bad storms, they will hold up just fine. Similar to easy setup, some tent brands are just flat out better at weather protection than others.
Mostly, Ozark Trail is known for their hiking boots and their tents. Setting up the Ozark Trail Teepee isn’t incredibly difficult, but I must say that if I were going to invest in a tent this size, I’d want the option for it to be freestanding to make it easier to set up. You need to put about a dozen stakes in the ground to set it up, and that can be an issue in rocky areas or where the soil is too loose.
Although Ozark Trail offers tents in the two to five-person sizes, their bread & butter are the larger sizes. If you find a brand that specializes in the size you want, you’re likely to end ozark trail tent up with a great product. Like the 12 person tent, it also comes with a T-style door, so you can move camping gear and furniture without having to fangle it through a small, D-style door.
And if this tent is too large, it also comes in a 6-person and 4-person version as well. Place end joints firmly onto the two other longest poles that will be the sides of the your Screenhouse.
