Razor

It was a bit difficult to get back on track, but doable and this fixed our problem. The Razor E Prime III Electric Scooter is the most robust electric mode of transport I’ve used so far. It’s made by the brand that made tiny folding scooters popular over the past decade in the biggest way – Razor. As such, we expect that we’ll have at least the quality we’ve come to expect from the main line. It did not immediately crumble under my weight, but its electric drive system probably wouldn’t have performed at its full potential.

The Icon’s front headlight is mounted pretty low to the ground — just above the front wheel — so it provides some, but not great, visibility in darker conditions. I did like the rear brake lights, which are nicely integrated into the rear of the Icon’s frame. A small red LED display on the right handlebar shows your speed and battery life, and it has two buttons to turn the scooter on and off, and to activate its head and tail lights. Among the best electric scooters, it’s definitely a standout compared to its peers.

Like the E100, this scooter is fitted with a chain-driven motor. The only downside we see in all three e-scooters is the lead-acid battery that takes around 8-12 hours to charge. The small LED screen isn’t fancy but gives you a good readout of your speed and battery life. There are three speed modes, though I never used anything but the highest speed mode. And the motor braking in the rear wheel is surprisingly powerful.

It also gives them just enough ride time at 40 minutes per battery charge. The scooter has a 1,000-watt motor and chain drivetrain that helps it reach speeds of up to about 20 miles per hour, with a range of 16.6 miles. And with some solid 16-inch wheels with wide pneumatic tires, that ride will be very smooth, according to Razor. Other features included in the cargo scooter include bright LED headlight and tail and brake lights, and an onboard display for speed and battery life. The rechargeable battery gives your kid 40 minutes of continuous riding time, while the pneumatic tires and hand-operated rear brake give them a smooth ride and keep your child safe. If you’re concerned about balance, you might want to try a vehicle with three wheels, like the one in our Doohan iTank review.

The foot deck of the E100 is 7.75″ wide, which is plenty of space for riders maxing out at 120 lbs. The E200 and E300 both have fuller decks for larger riders. Electric scooters are more expensive than traditional scooters because they have motors and large batteries. Be aware, however, that they are still razor scooter basically toys and Razor is not a luxury brand. We’ve had our own issues with our E100 (keep reading!) and we’ve heard lots of stories of scooters that just stop working or never work out of the box. To charge this scooter, you’ll have to find the plug under the base, move the cover aside, and plug in.

The only immediate giveaway that this isn’t the same as the scooter gathering dust in your parent’s attic is that the wheels look much larger. The shiny aluminum deck, colorful wheels, minimalist foot brake, and folding stem all harken back to the scooting days of yesteryear. Please allow 3-10 business days for your order to arrive.

Segway’s Ninebot Kickscooter ES1L, for example, costs $489 and has a top speed of 12MPH. The handlebars attach to the frame with a clamp that requires two screws, and an allen wrench to tighten them is included. You’ll also need to connect two wires for the accelerator and brake, a process that was extremely intuitive. All together, it took me under 5 minutes to assemble the scooter.
