Alen® HEPA Air Purifier Alen® BreatheSmart Classic

To you and me, that ranges from a whisper on the lowest level to a box fan on the highest. This was the same time as the Levoit Core 400S and the budget TaoTronics AP-003 but 3 minutes quicker than the Mila Air Purifier. The 45i has great performance for a smaller to a medium-sized room but would not be the best choice for a larger room, which is why the Alen 75i exists, which managed to clean our test room in 24 minutes. The Alen Air mobile app offers all of the onboard features and more, at least once you manage to get to them. The lengthy setup process includes more onerous security than my bank account, but while the process is a hassle, I completed it without any hiccups. This gargantuan purifier is best suited for commercial environments, but it really shines when it comes to power.

And our beautifully designed, whisper-quiet units do it without disrupting your conversations or your lifestyle. While we all want to be in a room breathing clean air, some machines are Lasko Box Fan simply too noisy and distracting to make it feel worthwhile. In order to see just how noisy each device was, we turned each one on and measured the sound output with a decibel reader.

You have to drill down to an individual device to access its controls and a detailed graph of both indoor and outdoor air quality history. When testing each machine’s ease of use, we looked at a couple of key features. First, we timed how long it took to get the device out of the box and set it up. It took our testers about five minutes to get the BreatheSmart 75i up and running, which is pretty average when compared to most other models.

Alen’s BreatheSmart 75i is the company’s largest air purifier, and it’s one of the largest I’ve tested altogether. The 75i is also quite powerful–indeed, maybe too powerful for most residential users, making it a better fit in commercial venues. Our experts test thousands of products each year using thoughtful test plans that bring out key performance differences between competing products. And, to assure complete independence, we buy all the products we test ourselves. Reflects how intuitive and easy the controls are to use, carrying ease, ability to remove the filter, and filter life indicator.

Alen’s medical-grade filtration is highly effective thanks to powerful yet quiet airflow, ensuring pure air for your entire room. As an added safeguard, Alen’s proprietary antimicrobial treatment kills mold and bacteria. As a light sleeper, I thought utilizing the purifier in the bedroom would be a no-go area. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find on the lowest setting, it is barely noticeable. I also had no issues on the second lowest setting, which may have even helped send me off to sleep with its gentle ASMR pink noise hum. Rather than a mere design feature, this light’s color indicates the air quality in the room.

Its smaller brother, the FIT50, shares similar design styles and capabilities and effectively cover medium-sized rooms such as your family room or master bedroom up to 900 sq ft. Onboard controls are basic but functional, including a color-coded ring around the power button that indicates one of five levels of particulates in the air. The front panel pops off to reveal a large HEPA filter (no rating specified) underneath. Air is pulled in from around the sides of the panel, through the filter, and emitted through a large grille on the top of the device. A child-friendly vent guard attachment is also in the box if you’re worried about Junior sticking a hand inside.

And when it’s bedtime, lights-off mode cleans the air without disturbing your sleep. As with the majority of air filters, the BreatheSmart 75i does not come equipped with a remote control. The Alen® BreatheSmart Classic is a great value with coverage up to 1,100 square feet and all the steadfast power, noise reduction and efficiency of its big brother, alen breathesmart the 75i. The Classic’s 3-color rings with laser sensor technology continuously monitor your air quality. The Pure filter replacement costs $100; the others are $130 each, with a subscription available that knocks 10 percent off the price. When it comes to quality, performance and customer satisfaction, Alen stands by their air purifiers for life.

Ranging from $69 for a basic filter to $119 for the premium option, this is a notable expense to be paid out and should be seriously considered before purchasing. Running this air purifier will cost less than you think, thanks to its Energy Star-rated efficiency – even if you leave it running on auto mode around the clock, as Alen recommends. During the day, with the purifier set to auto, it occasionally ramped up the fan speed to higher levels. This creates a lot of noise and can be distracting, especially if working or even watching TV or listening to music. Of course, this can easily be adjusted to suit the user and limited to lower speeds when needed.
