It’s always good to think about capacity before you buy a tent. Ozark Trail only makes large tents, and it usually goes without saying that no one will stuff 12 people in a 12 person tent. Cabin tents with vertical walls allow you to get nice and close to the edges of the shelter, ozark tent making the most of the available floor space. However, something like the Ozark Trail 10 person 3 room tent will force you to get a little more creative, given the sloped curves of the walls. My personal favorite Ozark Trail tent is the 12-person, 3-room instant cabin tent.
However you use it, just know it’s going to be a great choice for 4+ campers. In saying that, Core usually has more features that make them a bit better. Core tents are designed to be waterproof and are made using higher-quality materials. However, Ozark Trail is a good option for people who go on short camping trips during the warmer months, and new campers might feel less inclined to buy expensive equipment.
A year later, in early April 2017, we took another group trip to Point Mugu, in an effort to evaluate three additional family tents. Car campers who plan to brave miserable weather will appreciate the extra strength and protection of the REI Co-op Base Camp 4 Tent. It won’t handle heavy winds or serious storms, but for most summer camping, it’s an absolute delight. The 7 large windows allow you to enjoy the views and keep the air flowing through your tent, but you can zip it up nice and tight against the cold and wind. It won’t handle high winds (15+ MPH may knock it over), but it’s solid enough to withstand the heaviest rains.
This includes a gear loft, hanging organizers as well as electrical cord access. When needed, the roof can be opened to reveal a mesh cover that provides optimal ventilation while keeping bugs out. The 78-inch center height enables even the tallest family member to walk around comfortably.
Thank you OZARK for making camping nights with small children just a little more difficult!!!! Good thing we are all troopers and we didn’t let your HORRIBLE product ruin our trip. Rain fly is too big — it needs one side cut differently to allow to get in and out of the tent. Only complaint was the zipper hangs on the front door flap, destroyed flap and zipper. There was a breeze so I put bricks around the edge, and the rain tarp didn’t cover the whole of the window like it was supposed to, but that was it was a little hard to set up so it was understandable. It worked well that night and I got some rain in but nothing serious.
